great sound!!!, November 23, 2010

These headphones will not disappoint! By far the best sounding gaming headphones ive heard. I have the astro a40s and there is no comparison here. These are very light and comfortable. I have worn them for call of duty all nighters for over 6-7 hours with no problem whatsoever. If you are looking for sound isolation, you may want to pass these by. Alot of sound does escape out. I can have a conversation with my wife while using these at lower volumes. I actually prefer this kind myself and dont care for sound isolating headphones, especially for gaming because they get too hot and uncomfortable and generally have more messy sounding bass. These dont have TOO MUCH bass, but it is there and sounds good and not distorted. (The bass in these is alot better than in the a40s) I will say I use an astro mixamp in conjunction with these for gaming on the PS3 and it is a great little setup. My friends tell me I sound really clear when using the mic. I listen to music with them also and they sound great for music as well. When I listen to music I do not use the amp and they sound great on my sony vaio laptop without an amp. They are made of mainly plastic but dont have a cheap feel. They are built very well and look to be a set of headphones that will last a long time. I do have a gripe. for what these cost, they should include a case. But if you want a quality piece, you'll have to overlook that.

Sennheiser PC 360: Amazing Gaming Headset, December 15, 2011

***I know this is a huge wall of text but you should make sure you know what to expect when buying something that costs over $200.***

First and foremost, I am a gamer. I have been gaming competitively for well over 10 years and over that period have gone through numerous headsets these being the Turtle Beach X1 & X11,the Tritton AX Pro, the Astro A40 2010 & 2011 Models, and now the Sennheiser PC360. The Sennheiser PC 360s, however, take the cake for being the best headset that I've ever owned and used. Also, I am an Xbox 360 gamer so before reading this review keep in mind that I am using this with Astro Gaming's Mixamp for 5.1 SRS from the Xbox 360, and not as a standalone 2.1 Stereo headset as it is intended. This is because without a Mixamp you can not use this headset with an Xbox 360.

***Pros
[+] Amazing sound quality
[+] Some of the best audio positioning available on a dedicated gaming headset due to the Open Acoustic build and the large sound stage.
[+] Open Acoustic design allows air to flow through the speakers to your ears, keeping your ears cool and getting rid of any gross feeling of warmth that can be caused by a closed design. (Astro A40, Tritton AX Pro)
[+] Superb noise cancelling microphone. Very sturdy but also pliable to adjust easily to user preference. Xbox Live chat is very clear and the mic picks up your voice without you having to yell. It does very well to also block out any unwanted noise.
[+] Extremely comfortable. The earpads and headband cushion are covered in a velvet material that feels great around the ears (keep in mind these headphones will completely surround your ears and will not push down on any part of your ear). The headband is adjustable to fit any size head and the headphone itself does not push too tightly on your head. For those with glasses; this headset will fit fine while you are wearing glasses.
[+] On ear controls works surprisingly well. The volume knob can be found on the right side of the headset and will stay at the volume you put it at. The Boom mic acts as the mute switch on this headset. When you flip the microphone into the upward position it will mute the microphone (indicated by a noticeable click. You do the opposite to unmute the microphone.
[+] Very sturdy design. The headset itself is made of a very pliable plastic that feels very strong and can definitely take a beating.
[+] Very professional looking headset. The headset is a matte black with velvet cushioning. It looks very sleek and is all business.

***Cons
[-] Price tag. This is one of the most expensive dedicated gaming headsets on the market, especially considering the fact that Sennheiser literally gives you nothing with the headset.
[-] For use with any Game Console you will need an adapter, most common being the Astro Mixamp which in itself is about $120 USD. For a PC gamer, you'll need a good sound card to get the full experience with these headphones. A standard, bottom of the line sound card will not do these headphones justice. This means that you'll most likely have to spend even more money to get these headphones running optimally.
[-] The microphone is huge and cannot be detached. I feel like the microphone on this headset is way too big for what it's being used for. Other headsets such as the Turtle Beach models have a small pliable wire which is perfectly fine as a boom. The microphone is also not removable and is confined to your left ear.

***Other Things to Consider
[~] Open Acoustic design allows sound to enter and exit through the headset. Let me go a bit more into depth about this.

eg1.) You are listening to your task's audio at an average volume and someone is talking next to you. You will be able to hear them fairly clearly.
- This is a preference thing. For some this won't be a problem; people who tend to use the headset in a secluded area or who would prefer if they could hear their surroundings and others would definitely benefit from this. For others this may be a deal breaker; people who go to LANs will hear people yelling and this may take away from the game audio, and people who would prefer not to be able to hear their surrounding while gaming should consider opting for a closed design headset. Sennheiser PC 350 Collapsible Gaming Headset with Vol Control & Microphone Mute is a great alternative to the PC360 for someone looking for a closed design.

eg2.) You have the volume on your headphones fairly loud. People near you will be able to hear audio coming from your headset.
- Again, this is a preference thing. Some people would rather have their game audio kept confined to their headset. Others may not care if audio leaks from the headset because they may play in a dedicated area where they will be using the headphones alone.

You may be wondering, "Why should I buy this headset if I can just get a Closed design set?" Well, the reasoning behind the Open Acoustic design is that it allows sound to enter and leave the ear naturally as opposed to allowing it to rebound as it does in a Closed setup. This is a huge factor in the headset's amazing audio positioning when playing games with Surround Sound.

[~] Is this headphone right for you? Before buying this headset decide whether or not spending a minimum of $200 is worth it for what you will be using these for. This is a dedicated gaming headset and should be used as such. the headset is designed with the competitive player looking for that edge in gaming so if your just a casual gamer or just need a headset to VoIP or record a commentary you may want to opt for a better priced headset. Not saying you should buy a cheap headset but if that's what will work for you then by all means buy a cheaper headset.

With that being said, this is an absolutely amazing gaming headset that will not disappoint. If you're a dedicated gamer or just feel you'd like a top-notch headset then this headset is a great choice. Comparing these with my Astro A40s, which are regarded as one of the top of the line console gaming headsets, I can safely say there is no comparison, these headphones win hands down.

Thanks for reading my review. I hope I helped,

- Justin

I wish I would have ordered these first....., October 31, 2010

I have been researching the net for a replacement for my aging Turtle Beach X3 wireless headsets tied to my Xbox, and after a few weeks of learning, ordering and trying a few different brands, these are the keepers!

Well manufactured, solid, and they look "all business". Very light, in my opinion compared to the Astro A40 and TB HPX, tried both, and both are returned. Large size velour ear covers, much more comfortable than say, the vinyl on my X3s. I like the fact that the PC360 series has on-board controls for volume and mute (very slick on the later, as all you do is pivot the boom up until you hear and click and it's muted), a shortcoming of the HPX. I have these connected to an Astro Mixamp at the moment and all is rocking with solid bass and great separation (I can pinpoint an enemy whether 2 or 5 o'clock, very nice). The open design allows me to hear hear the phone while keeping my ears cooler than my X3s. I did run the PC360s overnight for 12 hours, attached to my Mac playing iTunes to break them in a bit. I have read that this allows for a broadened range of highs and lows....and I can say, I think it worked.

I have them connected via the digital audio optical out on the back of the XBOX. As a note the cord is long enough, I sit about 8 feet back from a 50" LCD, no problems. If you use a Mixamp, the cables/cords are all included with the Mixamp to get these headphones connected to your XBOX. Not sure about a PS3, but my guess is they will work as well.

Shipped overnight delivery, and received a free FiiO E5 Headphone Amplifier and a $10 discount on the headsets, overall a great value if you're a serious/semi-serious gamer. I did rate the comfort a 5, although it took a few hours to get there, like a good pair of shoes, it takes a bit of time to break them in. Overall they were a "4" for comfort, but then I realized that I had the adjustment fully extended and they were putting pressure just below my ears...some pain. Once I tightened them a bit, so that the weight was resting on my head all was good, since they are so light.

Overall, very satisfied.

Great headphones, but check your games!, July 16, 2009
I bought pre-ordered this headset from Razer's website a few days before they were released. I eagerly popped the awesome packaging open (watch Razer's unboxing video on YouTube if you haven't already) and threw them on.

The Megalodon's are by far the most comfortable computer headphones I've worn. The headband padding is cushy and keeps the headset from feeling too heavy on your noggin. The earcups, which go around your ears, are very soft and padded well. If anyone owned the Barracudas, some people (myself included) had issues where their ears would actually rest directly on the speakers and get sore after a while. Not with these babies! The padding is excellent and the earcups are very deep.

The mic is permanently attached and can rotate 270 degrees. The control pod is easy to use and let's you adjust the volume of each individual speaker channel and the bass separately. You can also of course switch between 2.1 and 7.1 modes with the press of a button.

The only issue though is to check and make sure that your movies and games can output 7.1 surround sound. If not, some sounds will be a little distorted and muffled. In these cases you are supposed to use 2.1 mode. Check your compatibility to see if what you watch/play is compatible now, but also keep in mind that future games and blu-ray releases should support 7.1.

One example of a standout game was Fallout 3. AMAZING. I could hear the wind blowing, characters talking, and could pinpoint exactly where bullets were being fired from. It truly rivaled my own conventional 5.1 setup. I'm going to have a hard time going back to stereo headsets!

Perfection, November 26, 2009'

First off this thing is amazing. Just the packaging it comes in is coo. As soon as I opened it I had my laptop on plugged it in and put it on. It worked without having to configure anything. So easy to use, the best sound quality ever, insane comfort, everything about this headset is almost to good to be true. Although my favorite thing about it is the braided wire. The wire does not get all messed up like a tradition wire and you dont get that anoying problem where you have to be constantly finding that sweet spot in the wire to make the sound work (some people should know what i am talking about). This is definently worth it.

Was using windows 7 and works like a charm.

If It Fits Your Needs Then Its Perfect..., August 1, 2011

My experience with the Megalodon is a pleasant one and I would recommend to all who want the upper hand in gaming. I got this beautiful headset after about 5 days using 5-8 day shipping so Im extremely happy with that. Now let me get started on my actual review.

- Sound Quality - Upon first listen it just sounded extremely hollow in 7.1 on things that actually were 7.1 but in 2.1 things sounded not as loud as they should have been. Now this may seem to you a giant problem at first but after I had updated the driver from Razer's website and listening to music (Preferably Skrillex =D) for about 3 hours seeing if they needed to be "burned" in a little bit I came to a conclusion that it was either a case of getting used to the headset or if the headset actually needed to be burned in a little bit with some straining stuff on the headset. You can be the judge, because all I know is this headset is amazing. Listening to music is the first thing I did when I got the headset and after that short period of confusion I was listening to music like never before.

- Bass - Now for all of you bass lovers like me out there at first you are going to step back and think well...This doesnt really give that giant thump others do...I can explain why after I figured it out myself. I had started up a couple of games like Crysis, CoD4, And Half Life and I soon realized that the reason that the bass doesnt shake the headsets off your head is to preserve sound quality and sense of direction. When a grenade explodes next to you and theres a guy creeping up on you, I think you would prefer hearing him and getting a nice turn-on instead of just having the bass tickle your ears. But as for my final take on it, I LOVE bass...Like love doesnt really express it haha but after getting used to it you can listen to dubstep and even guitars and many other genres like never before while still being satisfied on the bass side of the headset.

- Maelstrom Engine - This headset uses a dedicated sound card inside of the control unit that comes with this headset. Upon first touch of it I already feel like Ive had this for a couple of weeks that how easy it was to use. The best parts about the control unit is the amount of preference that is available for your disposal such as how while in 7.1 mode you can actually change the volume of the different speakers so If say you want to know when people are coming behind you more than the front you simply turn down the front and right and left speakers so that the middle and rear speakers stand out more than the front.

- The Microphone - The mic is extremely sensitive...Actually too sensitive, but this really isnt a problem if you can get over small problems...All you need to simply do is update the driver software from razers site and your are good to go. But if you really want crisp sounding voice you need to use the control unit by lowering your mic sensitivity and level. Not hard at all, and the whole process only took literally 5 minutes.

- Having The Upper Edge - Razer made this headset so that if someones trying to be a wise guy and tea bagging you from behind while everybody is loling all you do is hear his foot step turn around and slap him across the face basically haha. And it does this extremely well might I add...

The only and when I say only thing wrong with this headset that I can find so far is that at first you are going to need to do a couple of things before you experience the true beast that this headset really is. I would recommend this to anyone who is looking for a pair of headsets that compare to Senhheiser (Spelling may be wrong 3= haha) Steel Series and even Audio Technica's...

    Amazing, May 11, 2010

I ordered these after being disappointed by the Sennheiser PC350 headset. The sound coming out of the PC350s had a kind of plastic-y echo to it, like something you might hear from cheap desktop speakers. But the real problem with them was the mic -- it has a high-pass filter to reduce background noise and apparently my voice is too deep for it. I came through sounding clipped and choppy.

I searched around for reviews on the MMX 300s, but they're hard to find. A friend of mine has the DT 770s and I've always liked their sound, so I took a chance and bought these. I'm really glad I did.

First, the mic: The mic on the MMX 300s is extremely sensitive. I've had to turn off all software gain and reduce the input volume to avoid blowing my teammates eardrums out, not to mention distorting my voice. Consequently the mic will pick up a bit more noise than the PC350s but at least it will also pick up your voice, and will do an excellent job of it.

As to sound, the MMX 300s blow the PC350s out of the water, so I'll compare them to my other audiophile quality headphones, the Sennheiser HD600s and Ultimate Ears Super.fi 5 Pro.

Both the HD600s and MMX 300s have an amazingly flat frequency response. Both have a very wide, very articulate sound stage. The main difference between the two is in the high end and low end. The MMX 300s have what feels like a lot more bass response. Whereas the HD600s deliver the bass in a clear (some might say clinical) fashion the MMX 300s really let you feel it. The MMX 300s are also a touch on the bright side. Maybe slightly too bright for my taste but they're getting better as they break in.

Compared to the Super.fi 5 Pros the MMX 300s have improved mid-range response, are again a bit brighter, and deliver a wider sound stage. Bass response feels similar but again the MMX 300s have a more visceral quality to them, probably due to their closed, circumaural design. And while the MMX 300s do deliver a decent amount of noise reduction, they don't come close to the 26 dB of the Super.fi 5 Pros. This isn't a bad thing though -- if anything the noise reduction of the MMX 300s takes a little getting used to since it causes you to hear your own voice echoing around in your head.

The MMX 300s are a very unforgiving headphone. The quality of your source matters a lot, and they will very clearly let you hear every detail including compression artifacts, distortion and noise. A good headphone amplifier is recommended.

If you're in the market for an audiophile headset with a great mic, I can't recommend these enough. Be sure to shop around for the best price though.

Superior audio compared to the Sennheiser PC350.
The PC350 is more for competitive play, focusing on speech clarity and voice recognition (read: cold, harsh audio signature) while the MMX300 is the overall better headphone (read: natural, full sound).
The MMX300 mic is slightly more noisy than the PC350 mic, but not very noticeable during play.
I own both the PC350 and MMX300. The headsets were auditioned using an ASUS Xonar D2X sound card and the Beyerdynamic USB sound card.

Forget Gaming, Great for Conference Calls / Skype, April 4, 2009

I spend 3-4 hours a day on the phone at minimum and this headset is the deal. First, it completely blocks out noise around you so you can hear clearly the other person. Doesn't matter if the guy next to you wants to run a chainsaw, you can't hear it. Second, it is comfortable. No ear pressure, super comfortable. Third, the sound is great..

The microphone is so-so quality, but very decent. I think the microphone doesn't capture a full range of sound quite as good as some of my other headsets, but then again I am talking on the phone and not performing arts.

The price is a little heavy, but the quality is there. Order it, use it for 30 minutes, and you won't even remember the cost...

ANR Changed My Life, December 13, 2010

Admittedly, I stepped from a $200 "vice grip" head set model to the $1100 Bose A20, so my opinion of the A20 is obviously high in comparison. Here is what I can fairly state about the Bose A20:

First, the ANR truly is remarkable. I have not compared Bose's technology with others' such as Lightspeed, but I don't think you could be disappointed with Bose. On a recent flight, I traded my Bose A20 with the other pilot's Bose X. While the ANR difference between the two models didn't wow me, there was a definate level of improvement.

Second, the comfort of the A20 is excellent. In the same headset swap referenced above, I was ready to get my A20 back because it fits so much better. I guess I am most impressed with the fact that I don't have a headache after flying a cross country flight from ridiculous clamping action.

Third, the Bluetooth is a great feature, especially for those flying IFR and needing clearances from ATC via phone. I wish I had this function during my instrument training. Some criticism is probably valid of Bose when comparing the Lightspeed Zulu to the A20 because music on the A20 is via a provided cable while its available via bluetooth on the Zulu. At least while I fly, I am too busy to listen to music, but I see how this feature would be nice for a passenger. The question I have is how many devices on the market allow you to actually transmit music via bluetooth? I don't know the answer (I could be surprised) but for my purposes I'm happy to listen to music via the cable.

Finally, it is worth noting that Bose (or some poor pilot) discovered a defect with the cable. They were proactive in communicating with customers who had purchased the A20 that they were working on a fix. This was followed a few weeks later with instructions on how to return the old cable and receive a new one. This process required me being without my headset for a week, which was really an unacceptable request for Bose to make of its customers (who purchased an $1100 headset). Once my return was in the system at UPS they were suppose to send out the new cable. They drug their feet on sending me the new cable and a customer service rep used inappropriate language during a phone conversation with me. The combination of these two events prompted me to file a complaint with the Better Business Bureau. When Bose contacted me, they didn't seem to be too concerned with my customer service experience though they did apologize for the language that was used. I did finally receive my new cable and it works fine (I never had problems with my old cable).

NOTE: if you are effected by this replacement/recall I would demand that Bose send you the new cable before you send them the old one. The manager I spoke with during my complaint process indicated that they had provisions in their customer service policies to send a new cable first by customer request. The bottom line here is that customer service has been the only black mark I've had with my Bose A20.

Overall, the Bose A20 is great. I'm not claiming its better than the Lightspeed Zulu as I have not compared. What I am willing to say is that if you buy the Bose A20, you'll not be disappointed with the quality and performance you receive.

WOW, top of the line gear! UPDATE ***, February 3, 2011

I needed a TSO headset for Part 121 flying. I tried the Sennheisers, the Telex, Lightspeed Zulu, and the Clarity Aloft noise canceling headsets over an extended period of time. My Clarity Aloft headsets finally failed after 5 years and it was time for something better. I decided to go BIG because I spend a lot of time flying the friendly skies and I wanted something comfortable and functional. Of all of the headsets, the Zulu's were close to the Bose but the Bose A20's win based on comfort and imperceptible weight. Sennheiser was a distant third, then Clarity Aloft (YUK), and finally the Telex's are not in this class of headset.

I was amazed at the noise canceling and comfort of the BOSE A20's. The earcups are soft, there is no clamping of your head, I can wear them coast to coast, and the stereo quality of the AUX inputs is excellent. ATC calls and transmissions are clear as a bell. My only issue is that the noise canceling is so good that there is a tendency to p#ss off the guy your flying with if you have both earcups on and he wants to talk. It can be annoying to start every communication with "huh? what did you say?" I've learned over the years with noise canceling headphones to put the earcup facing the other pilot slightly off center of my ear so that I can hear him on the first pass. If he really wants to talk, I just take the earcup further off of the ear.

I am kind of an audio freak and think I would rate the stereo audio quality as excellent, not crystal clear like Etymotic ER4P headset clear, but pretty close, definitely excellent. I didn't go with the Bluetooth version because it didn't inject audio, only phone.

Overall, the Bose A20's are worth the money, glad I have them!! I think I'll have to be really careful they don't walk away.

    UPDATE 2/14/2011
Unfortunately, I have decided to return these headsets in the 30 day trial period. After the first week, these headsets started to "hotspot" the top center of my head and became uncomfortable after several straight hours of continuous flying. The sound quality was excellent but it came down to a comfort issue. There were a few annoying things.
    1) If you set the headsets to STEREO, for AUX input stereo, then ATC only comes in on the left ear.
    2) The brainbox is kind of heavy and pulls down on your head alot when you turn your head.
    3) the "hotspot" issue.

I'd recommend these headsets for single/multi engine piston pilots and instructors more than for part 121.

**** UPDATE, News Flash..... I found Nirvana!!! After trying every noise cancelling aviation headset in the book, I found a part 121 TSO headset that blows everything else completely away, the Bose QC15/Uflymike, just google Uflymike. The lightweight comfort of the QC15's, the noise cancellation is excellent for a semi-quiet Boeing aircraft, the microphone interfaces perfectly with the aircraft, also, there is a stereo input, there are no hotspots on long flights, and it's TSO'd!! and it's $400 - $500 cheaper :)

Most Comfortable Aviation Headset on the Market, February 26, 2011
Being former military, I used the David-Clark exclusively before, and while they never break, they did clamp a little too hard after hours of use. As I did experience some hearing loss from the military and wanted the best headset out there, after much asking around I choose the Bose. As I am adding a rating, my ex-military instructor (also with service related hearing loss) tried them and said they are the best headset he has ever tried, he uses the older model Bose. The performance is excellent, both in frequency quality, volume and noise detection/reduction. On cheaper headsets (and cell phones) I have trouble hearing certain tones, not with the Bose. The ear cups are now larger than the last generation headset and work well with the two different models of sunglasses I wear. When looking for a aviation headsett, my goal was to be at my best with a comfortable set vs. saving a few hundred dollars (a couple of hours of fuel) and not be at my best with a lesser fitting headset and potential subsequent headache, which may become a distraction. The bluetooth works well when testing, however I have not used it much when in the aircraft.

CrystalVoice technology is a tool that every raid or squad leader wants to have at their disposal as every command can spell the difference between success and failure.
CrystalVoice Active Noise Reduction enables you to be heard clearly over background noise by constantly monitoring the environment and eliminating the unwanted noise that interferes with the conversation, while CrystalVoice Smart Volume automatically adjusts the loudness of the speaker's voice to maintain a consistent volume level. This makes it convenient for the speaker to converse normally, regardless of the distance from the microphone. And CrystalVoice Acoustic Echo Cancellation eliminates echoes and enables the speaker to listen to the other party clearly. Echoes are common problems present in voice communication systems that disrupt conversation, making it difficult to hear the other party.

Together, these technologies deliver the fullest audio experience for music, movies and games, while remaining true to the source and intention of the artists who created it.
    THX TruStudio Pro Crystalizer
THX TruStudio Pro Crystalizer enables game audio to be heard as the developers originally intended. Subtle details which are typically lost in the mix are now captured and enhanced, making a scene or moment go from good to magical. The clang and ringing of swords on armor, or even the hum of a BFG fragging enemies, make all the difference when creating amazing game audio. Crystalizer ensures that every last detail will be heard.
    THX TruStudio Pro Surround
THX TruStudio Pro Surround goes beyond 5.1 or 7.1 audio and provides a customizable level of audio immersion. The algorithm adds depth and spatial information to standard stereo audio streams, and really comes into its own when it is fed 5.1 or 7.1 audio from a game. When this occurs, the algorithm takes the streams and stimulates hundreds of virtual speakers to create a seamless and incredibly realistic surround experience, far surpassing standard stereo headphones, headsets, or speakers.
    THX TruStudio Pro Bass
THX TruStudio Pro Bass fills in the missing low frequency tones and gives the extra impact for a better entertainment experience. Gamers no longer have to tolerate a lack of bass in speakers built into notebook PCs, 2.0 speakers, or headphones: THX TruStudio Pro Bass technology dramatically improves the sound experience.
    THX TruStudio Pro Dialog Plus
THX TruStudio Pro Dialog Plus enhances voices in games and movies for drastically clearer dialog. the vocal range is "lifted" out from the ambient and background soundtrack mix, allowing the listeners to hear dialog much more clearly.
    THX TruStudio Pro Smart Volume
THX TruStudio Pro Smart Volume addresses the problem of abrupt volume changes during playback, and between sources, by continuously measuring volume and applying gain and attenuation to compensate for variances. The result is a consistent volume level despite source levels. This is particularly ideal when using VOIP programs, where users have wildly varying volume levels when communicating.

    Uses: Music, movies, and games
    Systems: PC and PS3
    Pros:
-Great sound quality that can be cranked up loud. These headphones drown out the crazy neighbor lady yelling about her lazy, mooching husband.
-Comfortable through 3+ hours of use.
-Included software provides plenty of sound and voice customization.
    Cons:
-Sound leaks out of the headphones. Your wife is going to hear the muffled sounds of fragging coming from the headset.
-Only one system can be hooked up to the Recon 3D at the same time.
    -Very small delay on audio.

Creative Sound Blaster Tactic 3D Omega Wireless Gaming Headset
I first tried this headset out at E3 and I was impressed with how well they drowned out the sound of the convention floor, allowing me to hear their demo game loud and clear. The sound quality is great, unlike the other headsets I tried out at E3 (Sorry Turtle Beach, don't set up a demo with headphones that cackle and break at every loud noise). The power, volume, and mute mic buttons are all located on the left earphone of the headset. They're fairly simple to press, though you have to be careful which button you're pressing. The wireless headphones are crystal clear up to 15 feet away, but starts to cut out past that. If you're close enough to watch TV/play games, then you're close enough to use the headphones. The microphone cancels out noise that is being sent by the system, so when explosions are going off in the game while you're talking, your voice is the only thing picked up by the mic. There's a very small delay on the audio (1/4 of a second maybe), due to the wireless connection, which can noticed if watching for it, but movies can still be watched without being distracted by it. Charging the headset is easy, you just plug in the Micro-USB cable, and the headset can still be used while charging.

Creative Sound Blaster Recon3D THX USB External Sound Enhancer for PC, PS3, XBOX 360 and Mac - SB1300
The Recon 3D connects to the Xbox 360 and PS3 through the included Optical and Micro-USB cables. The PC just requires the micro-USB cable. The guide tells you where the audio settings for the consoles are, and what you need to turn on, but a little more tweaking may be needed depending on how your system is currently configured. Using the included software, you can change the audio settings on your PC and save it to a profile, then export it to the Recon 3D and use it with your consoles. I haven't done extensive testing to see how much better the Recon 3D improves audio compared to not using it, and songs playing from WinAMP didn't seem to have much of a difference, but I did notice that playing songs off YouTube sounded better.

    Tips:
-If you get this bundle to use with multiple devices, keep the Micro-USB cords plugged into the systems and just swap which one is plugged into the Recon 3D.
-Don't use "Dialog Plus" when listening to music. The option is to allow you to hear dialog in movies clearer, but I've found it causes some fade in/out issues with music.
-When using the headset volume controls, feel for the beveled arrows. The power button is flat and glossy.
-The power button requires you to press and hold for several seconds. The mute mic and volume buttons are single-press; holding those buttons won't do anything.
-Set your PS3's audio input to the Recon 3D. Set the multi-input audio option to off when you want to use the headset and switch it on whenever you want the sound sent to your TV/Speakers.

Great combo package - Gaming, December 2, 2011

After receiving the headset, the first thing I did was try it out on my pc because it had to charge a minimum of 5 hours. The computer easily detected the Recon3D and headset, I proceeded with the installation of the Recon3D software. Everything went fine, easy to install, until I came to my first bug... My friends told me that I was causing an echo on teamspeak. I went further in the problem and tried to discover the cause. Ah, there it is, the installation of my soundblaster Arena and X-fi card conflicted with the Recon control panel. I could not adjust the Recon settings at all, had to turn of the creative console launcher first. After that, everything went fine, no more echo on teamspeak.

The next thing I tried was plugging in the headset and soundcard to my ps3. I run the ps3 to my pionner elite sc-27 by hdmi, and then to the Pt-AE4000 for the image. of course, my other headsets I would plug straight in the home cinema front earphone plug to get a nice 7.1 surround sound. How to plug the Recon now... Well I tried both ways, with the provided optical, bypassing the SC-27, and through the earphone jack of the sc-27. I am glad to say, that I had better control of sound through the sc-27, but at the same volume, both sounded excellent. I loved the bass coming from the headset. It is very confortable. In games, the scout mode is a must, sorry can't sneak up on me unless your dead silent now...

With 3 possible modes, THX, Scout, or both off, depending on the setup, this headset is a must, I can definately say bye bye Turtle Beach, sorry to have met, happy to part.

The only problem I have, and I had wished Creative would have given it to us, is a possibility to charge without using the ps3 or a computer. A 110V plug with USB connection or even the stand from the original package would have been great, and a 25 foot USB cable for when we are out of juice, other then that, this is the best by far headset I have tried.

Best Headset Soundcard combo ever!!!!!, December 11, 2011

I have been fortunate to have many many headsets and soundcards over the years and I am a bit of an audiophile to boot. I recently got this bundle and I was immediately blown away. First I just moved off of the World of Warcraft wireless headset and the wireless functionality provides a much richer sound and the range I can move from my computer on a skype call for instance is greatly increased.

The sound quality is some of the best I have heard. The software allows for a high amount of tailoring the sound to your liking and I used it to tweak the sound considerably from the out of the box settings. The headset itself is very comfortable. So far I don't really have any complaints about this product and would recommend it to anyone. With the recon I can use my headset for virtually any device in my home. PC, XBOX 360, PS3, IPad etc.

    From the Manufacturer

Among the world’s smallest, lightest in-ear headphone designs, the Klipsch Image X10i Headset employs a wealth of micro-technology for long-wearing comfort and audiophile-quality listening. Plus, it includes an advanced microphone and 3-button remote for taking calls and controlling the music content on your iPod, iPod touch or iPhone 3GS.

Superior sound quality and crystal-clear calls
    with long-wearing comfort
Superior Design for Clear Calls and Sonic Bliss
Based on the highly acclaimed Klipsch Image X10 headphones, the X10i offers the absolute best in Klipsch style, sound comfort and fit. It caters to discriminating, on-the-go listeners who are constantly playing music and taking phone calls.

Inside each ear piece, which is made of machined aluminum and finished in anodized copper, you’ll find an exclusive full-range armature micro-speaker with a tuned bass-reflex system that delivers lifelike dynamics, sonic clarity and booming bass.

The X10i positions its in-line microphone and remote at the yoke--where the two cables meet at chest level--to create a more natural feel when answering calls and controlling music. Because the microphone is a highly intelligible 360-degree design, you don’t have to talk down into it or hold it close to your mouth. The microphone also features echo cancellation, which keeps it from picking up surrounding noise, so you’ll always be heard crystal clear.

Make calls and control your portable player with ease
    Luxurious, Long-Wearing Comfort
It doesn’t matter how great a pair of headphones sound if they are painful to wear. Unlike traditional, circular-shaped ear tips that put stress on the pressure points inside your ear, the X10i utilizes patented oval ear tips that naturally fit the shape of your ear canals. This makes them extremely comfortable and virtually impossible to feel. Additionally, these exclusive ear tips produce a perfect acoustic seal, which minimizes outside noise so you can enjoy your music at lower, safer volumes.

Expanded Compatibility, Including Apple iPhone 3GS
While the Image X10i serves as a pair of premium headphones for any device with a 3.5mm headphone jack, its microphone and remote system handles the music and voice control of the following Apple products: iPhone 3GS, third generation iPod shuffle, second generation iPod touch, fourth and fifth generation iPod nano models and the iPod classic 120GB. If you have an iPod touch or iPhone and Wi-Fi access, you can also use the Image X10i with VOIP (need an adapter for PC or Mac), Skype and iChat.

    What’s in the Box
Included with the Image X10i In-Ear Headset is a faux-leather carrying case, compact carrying pouch, 1/4-inch adaptor for home stereos, airline adaptor, five sizes of patented ear-tips and an ear-tip cleaning tool.

    What the Experts Are Saying

“In many ways, the Image X10i Headset mirrored the sound of Klipsch's WF-34 floor-standing loudspeakers. Both are extremely clean, crisp, detailed and fast.”

“The phones have laser-like precision and open the door to the smallest details of every recording. They are also very comfortable and so light that one can listen for hours without mechanical fatigue.”

“The Image X10is make a strong case for being “the reference” in-ear headphones. Overall, the Image X10is offer excellent dynamics, clarity and definition. Their combination of comfort and way with music makes for an easy recommendation. Simply put, they are the best in-ear headphones I've heard.”

--Todd Whitesel, AudioVideo Revolution (avrev.com), March 2010

"Definitely the best sounding consumer-grade in-ear headphones I’ve ever listened to. The price tag matches the sound quality however. If you want good audio fidelity on your phone headset, you’ll be hard pressed to find something better than these."

The Most Comfortable Earbuds Ever!, November 26, 2007

This are, without question, the MOST comfortable in-ear headphones I have ever worn. The difference between the fit of these compared to other high-end earbuds is amazing! I have a pair of SE530s and have tried others such as the ER4-P, Triple.fi, and many others. I use to love switching back and forth between models and having them for different uses, but now after wearing the IMAGEs, I find myself disappointed when I am without them.

When I first used these, I thought they sounded a little muddy. The bass from the tiny things is unbelievable! Once I adjusted my EQ settings, they sounded fantastic. I would say that they aren't as accurate as the ER4-Ps or SE530s, but the comfort makes up for any accuracy they may be lacking!

The IMAGEs are very light weight and are hardly noticeable when you have them inserted properly. I prefer the two flanged tip over the single. I can get a proper seal every time, and they are very easy to take out and put back in. Nothing is more annoying than when you get that perfect seal and then some joker walks up and starts talking to you. I hate that when I am wearing my SE530s because they are such a pain to put in. Not a problem with these.

True, the retail on these is a little steep, but I promise you will not regret it! 5 stars for comfort, style, and sound quality.

A Bit Pricey, But Definately Worth It For the Sound and iPod Controls, May 7, 2010

I've probably been using portable music players for at least 20 years now. First it was cassette players, then CD players and now MP3 (or other music/video file type) players. Progressively as I upgraded from one type of player to the next, I wanted an even better (i.e., not cheap) kind of player(s) which would give me more features and of course, better sound. It wasn't until more recently that I discovered it wasn't so much the player, as the headphones that made the big difference in sound. (Duh!) I don't know why I didn't bother to get better headphones until recently, but I guess it was because I didn't understand that the type of sound I was hearing wasn't nearly as good as what the source material was capable of giving me. (Especially for CD's) So I finally decided to stop using el cheapo's and plunk down some coin for a decent pair of headphones.

The first pair I bought was a few years ago and were the Bose In-Ear earbuds. The player I was using at the time was the Apple Ipod 5G video. Compared to the Skullcandy earbuds I was using before, they sounded like THE BEST sounding earbuds I had ever heard. (That I had heard, not that existed). I quickly became disillusioned with these, especially when wearing them as I worked out at the gym and they would constantly fall out of my ears as I worked out. Surprisingly, this would also happen when I wasn't working out, although far less frequently. I tried all the different size ear tips, but made no difference. I knew there were far better (more expensive) buds out there to try, so after doing some research and comparing, I next went with the Ultimate Ears Super.Fi 5 pro earbuds. These had a bendable wire built-in to allow wrapping around the ears and fits deeper into the ears, which they did. Also, the sound was MUCH better! In fact, while waiting to get the X10i's, I sold my Super.Fi 5's and reverted back to the Bose to see how they measured up and after listening to them again, I can't believe I ever thought the Bose sounded good! The bass they give is so overpowering and muddy that it drowns out some of the mids and highs, making for a poor listening experience when compared to the Super.Fi 5's.

A little over a month ago, I finally upgraded from using some of the Ipod Nanos to the 64GB Touch (3rd Gen). This model has an in-line/voice control feature which I wanted to use immensely, but I didn't want to use the craptacular earbuds that came with the Touch. After doing a little research, I found that the Klipsch were the only game in town that had some in-line controls/microphone earbuds that work (mostly) with these features. I know there is the cheaper S4i model, but after reading some of the reviews, I was afraid that they would be a lot like the Bose I had (i.e. strong bass drowning out the mids and highs), so I decided to go all out and go for the brass ring and get the X10i's.

I was definitely weary about paying the $350 price tag these things have, what with buying them online (harder for exchange/refunds) and not knowing how well they work. For the price though, they had to be good! And luckily, the gamble paid off. The X10i's sound every bit as good, if not better than, my old UE Super.Fi 5's! The earbuds are definitely smaller as well and fit much more comfortably in the ears due to the oval shape of the ear tips. This makes quite a lot of sense, considering how oval-like the human ear canal is shaped. It is surprising how much research Klipsch (and others like them) put into making their earbuds; the micro technology, form, design, etc. The medium size tips are what 60% of users find the most comfortable, so those are the ones that are already attached to the buds. I guess I'm one of the 60% because I just left them on when I tried the X10i's out for the first time and they fit comfortably and securely. I bought these for 2 main reasons: 1. The awesome sound. 2. The in-line/microphone controls. So I will review these 2 aspects of the earbuds.

    1. The sound: Again, this is a major pro! Unfortunately I had already sold my Super.Fi 5's before I got the X10i's, so I couldn't do a sound check and compare the two. I can note that when using the Super.Fi 5's VS the X10i's with my iTouch I had to turn the volume back up a bit when using the X10i's to get the same volume level. I don't know exactly what this suggests; maybe that the X10i's need a little more power (volume) than the Super.Fi 5's did? Nonetheless, I get all the sound flavors. The sound is very clean, vibrant and reproduces the source as well as it can be done. Knowing how well these reproduce sound, I went ahead and re-ripped my music library from the AAC (.m4a) file format @ 150Kbps VBR to the same format @ 300Kbps VBR. This is about as high as I can go in the AAC format before it becomes too high a bit rate for the iTouch. I'm also not ready to go lossless just yet, but someday. (When there's more memory for PMP's like the iPod.) Anyway, I'm hearing some sounds in my music that I never have heard before. Some just small, background sounds; others have become more distinct and vibrant. I don't know if this is because of the earbuds, the fact that I doubled the bit rate of my music or a combination of both. (Probably both.) The highs and mids are where these really shine. I listen mostly to Alternate rock, industrial, electronica, techno, etc., so nothing too bass intensive like R&B. Don't get me wrong, you still do get some tight, relatively strong bass, but I've heard headphones with more. This may be the way they were designed, so the bass won't be too strong and over power the rest of the music spectrum. Still, I think the lows could be a bit stronger, so I'd have to list this as a small con.

    2. The in-line/voice control: This is actually the main reason I decided to get the X10i's. There's a lot of things I like about the iTouch, but its auto-lock feature is not one of them. Having controls that allow me to have some basic functionality without having to unlock the iTouch every time I want to pause/play, go to the next track or listen to a different album is VERY handy. Unfortunately, not all of the controls work properly or at least not all the time. I'll give a bullet point of each control and how well it works (or not) with my iPod Touch 3rd Gen.
    - Volume +/-: These controls work flawlessly every time. They will turn the volume up or down in about 10% increments across the volume bar.
    - Pause/Play (middle button press 1x): This works every time as well. Press it once to pause, press it once again to continue play.
    - Next Track (middle button press 2x): This only works about half the time. I don't know why, but it's not fully compatible with the iTouch for some reason. The specs for the X10i's give a compatibility list and it has the 2nd Gen iTouch listed, but not the 3rd, so maybe the 2nd Gen is more compatible? Other reviewers have stated that this feature doesn't work all the time for them either with different model ipods/iphones. I have noticed that when I do double tap to go to the next track and it doesn't work, the song will skip for ½ a second like it's trying to go to the next track, but can't. Sometimes I can get it to skip to the next track by trying multiple times, but it doesn't work every time.
    - Previous Track (middle button press 3x): Same problem as the next track incompatibility.
    - Voice Control (middle button press, hold down 2-3 seconds): So far, I have had little to no trouble having this work, thankfully. I've only used it about half a dozen times or so, but I've tried playing a few of my playlists by saying, "Play playlist Powerman 5000" or albums by saying, "Play album Thirty Seconds to Mars" and every time it played the exact album or playlist I asked for. I did once ask it to play a playlist and it misinterpreted what I said and started playing songs by a certain artist instead, but all I had to do is restate my request more clearly and it played the proper playlist. SO MAKE SURE YOU SPEAK CLEARLY WHEN USING THIS FEATURE! There are many other voice commands besides the ones I mentioned, but haven't tried them all yet. Also, you don't have to say the full name of whatever it is you are requesting, as long as it's close enough. For example, when I said to play my Powerman 5000 playlist, the full name of the playlist is actually Powerman 5000 Mix, but I left out the "mix" part.

One last thing I have to say about these. Some reviews (both amateur and professional) have said that these are mainly for serious audiophiles that mainly listen to lossless music because these buds will uncover any flaws in lesser quality music. That's somewhat true, but with a little BS sprinkled on top. These are for anyone who really cares about getting the best sound out of their music (whatever the source may be), want ipod/iphone in-line controls and can afford them. The truth is these earbuds will only let you hear flaws in your music if they actually exist. Let's say you have your music ripped at a standard .mp3 @ 192Kbps. You listen to a song with your old, cheap earbuds and then listen to that same song using the X10i's; it's not going to make that song sound like crap. It will make it sound better than the cheap buds you were using, but only as good as that file format/bit rate will allow. The X10i's may make your music sound inferior to higher quality versions in comparison, but that's only if you ACTUALLY compare them. If, for instance, you're use to listening to your music as audio files and not straight from the CD's you ripped them from, then you're not going to be aware of any possible deficiencies in your music. Audiophiles may say that music at anything less than lossless quality IS a flaw, but that's a matter of opinion.
